Improve Page Rank and Increase Traffic With Incoming Links
One of the best ways to build traffic to your site is by having other sites link to yours. They are called Incoming Links. Many swear by SEO alone, but if you build your incoming links the right way you will not only be improving traffic rate but also building relationships with other bloggers. Relationships are everything to a blogger! Remember that.
Straight off the bat let me say I am not talking about paying for links, link exchanges, or link building services. Search engines frown on this and you’ll be hurting yourself more than helping. One of the things I learned quickly when beginning a blog was that there is no fast and easy way to build quality links. Yes, I said quality links. I am all for building your network on sites such as BlogCatalog or BlogLog, but beware of the spammers. Do you seriously want comments on your site that say things like: “Hi, add you as friend and visit your nice blog too, visit mine if you have time, see you soon and thank you very much…”. Yes, that is an actual comment left for me.
A great way to get some extra traffic and possibly some backlinks to your site is to comment on other people’s blogs. Most blogs allow you to attach your URL to your comment post and instantly you have created a backlink to your site!
Some things to keep in mind:
- Find blogs that are similar to your site. It’s called “fishing in the right pond”. You want to stay in your niche so that you are attracting readers that will be interested in what you have to say and keep coming back. Plus you can learn a lot by spending time on other blogs (especially those doing well). You’ll pick up all kinds of ideas, strategies and tips on not only things they do well, but things that they may be missing that you could do to carve your own niche.
- Find blogs that have a higher page rank than yours. Your goal is to find a website that the search engines (like Google) trust; a website that belongs to good or even important networks. Just as important, if not more is not linking to sites from what we would consider “bad” networks.
- Do NOT spam! Read the blog. Take time to show you were interested and leave a comment that shows you read and appreciated the knowledge you gained. You’re not there to promote your site, but comment on theirs. Do this and 99% of the time they will reciprocate with possibly more than just the backlink, but also a comment on your site, a shout out on social networks, etc. I am a big believer in paying it forward.
The work will definitely pay off a hundred fold, the only thing is that it can take hours upon hours to sift through all the blogs out there to find ones that fit. I’m pretty excited because I found a FREE software download that totally rocks!!
Comment Hut has been such an awesome time-saver for me. It does just about everything except write the comment for me! You just enter the keywords you want and it will go out and find relevant blog posts for you to comment on. Then it returns a list that includes page rank, and from that list you can choose which posts you want to read and make a comment on. It is a HUGE time-saver if you are going to take this advice seriously and search for blogs.
They have two versions free and paid. The free version only searches WordPress blogs. The paid version searches through WordPress, Blogger, and five other types of blogs. They say the free (or Comment Hut Lite) version only returns 10% of what you would get with the paid version. But, the Comment Hut Lite software is totally FREE to try out so it’s worth the download so you can try it out for yourself. There’s even is a video that shows it in action. Check it out and see what you think.
Link building is becoming more important than ever, and the relationship building you’ll accomplish through reading and commenting on other similar blogs is priceless. Use these ideas to help think of your own. Be creative! Share any other ideas or comments you have on link building here too.

@Walter I’m glad I (I mean my blog) is so irresistible! It’s good to see you already taking action, that’s the biggest hurdle right there! “Opportunities multiply as they are seized.” – Sun Tzu
@The Blogger Source: You are right, a PR with a lower ranking is still beneficial so long as the blog is not associated with some of the Google no-no’s that they frown on. Take MY blog for instance…your blog has a higher PR than mine (for now) but you will benefit because your blog is mentioned here others will say, ‘hey he must know what he’s talking about” and visit your blog. Also, you can count on me to comment back and refer you on the social networks we both belong to, such as Twitter. In other words, you rock for commenting with a chick that rocks!
Even blogs that have a lower rank but at least some PR will benefit you.

First off, thank you for visiting and commenting at my place, it’s greatly appreciated. I hope you’re finding useful info.
Now if I may make a couple points
…
While it’s good to stick to blogs within you’re niche for obvious reasons, it is also very beneficial to comment even outside your niche…I’ll be posting about this soon if you’re interested. I would leave it all in this comment, but a separate post gives me the chance to give you a deep linkback to this post.
I totally agree with the source on the 2nd point. As long as you find what appear to be reputable blogs (those that will be around a while), even a PR0 will not remain so forever.
Regarding spam, you’re totally right. Doing this only tells not only the blog owner but all other readers what blog to NOT visit or recommend to others.
Lets never forget the one true incentive for quality backlinks – they are now and for the foreseeable future the BACK-BONE of Googles ranking algorithm.
Sorry if I rambled. lol
Dennis Edell’s last blog post..Blog Readers or Twitter Followers – What’s YOUR Preference?
@Dennis: I’m looking forward to reading your post on commenting outside your niche. As you can see, I didn’t adhere to that point 100%! I get your point about the PRO blogger not remaining there forever, there are too many other up and comers (ahem) that have a voice in the blogosphere too.
Appreciate the comment and the deep linkback coming up! Thanks for coming by and adding your experience to the mix!

Oops miscommunication, totally my bad. I didn’t write PRO blogger, that PR ZERO “0″. I was working off point #2 of yours.

@ Dennis Aaha…gotcha! Makes sense, PR 0 as in page rank zero. I’m really not scatter-brained, I was just feeling ‘fragmented’ that day!
I couldn’t agree with this article more, link building is important especially within your niche site. I have one blog i’ve had for a year with a page rank of two it is about making money online and it’s worked out fairly well but at the same time I linked to alot of bloggers who were not in my niche as well, but now i’m trying to work on a site that covers a broad range of categories so this should be a challenge.
By the way i’m loving your blog, you may have found your self a new daily reader
@Adalynn: Woohoo! A lifelong reader is wonderful to hear! I’ve had mixed opinions on the niche blogs, but the most important thing is to try and stay consistent with leaving comments. If you can become one of the Top Commentators on your favorite blog it will not only bring traffic back through your link, but you may even be so fortunate as to have the blog owner ask you to do a guest post! Now that’s cool! Thanks for your comments…see you around soon!
