Ning Hits 1 Million Social Networks With Top Female Entrepreneur Leading The Way
While the world was watching the Kutcher vs CNN challenge to hit 1 million followers on Twitter, there was another 1 millionth milestone hit on Thursday.
Ning, the ultra personalized and do-it-yourself social network site had it’s 1 millionth site created after only two years. Ning lets users create their own mini communities, complete with customizable and unique layouts, profiles, videos, blogs, and ads.
Gina Bianchini, cofounder and CEOof Ning, recently told CNET News “I believe that no one is doing and thinking about graphing interests and passions, and thinking about people as their interests and passions, except us,”. As Gina describes it, what makes a Ning-based social network “custom” is that it’s functionally yours, since you generate the members and you control the community features.
It is no wonder Ning has had such huge success with the likes of Bianchini as CEO and Silicon Valley baron Marc Andreessen (co-founder of Netscape) as co-founder. Prior to co-founding Ning, Gina was co-founder and president of Harmonic Communications, a marketing optimization tech company which was acquired by the Japanese advertising agency Dentsu. Bianchini was also included in CNN Money’s list of The 50 Who Matter Now and FastMoney.com’s list of The Most Influential Women InTechnology.
A big congratulations to Ning and to Gina Bianchini – another woman making things happen in the world today!

I have been checking it out for a few weeks now. Looks interesting, and I did see that there was someone that set up their own Twitter network for those with over 1000 followers. You can make your network about whatever you want it to be. I get a little overwhelmed if I try to take on too many things at once…and this week it’s php.
