Nomination For Favorite Woman Blogger Categories in BlogLuxe Awards!

Everyone loves a little healthy competition and I’m definitely no exception! It’s fun and it adds a camaraderie between the competitors as we support and root for each other while we push for the top. I’m excited that Market Like A Chick is in the running for two blog awards: Most Provocative Blog (Yeah, I’m a little sassy sometimes!) and the Blog You’ve Learned The Most From in the 2009 Swiffer SocialLuxe Lounge BlogLuxe Awards competition!
It’s time to vote for your favorite women bloggers in 8 different categories! The awards will be given out on July 23rd at BlogHer ’09, the biggest blogging conference of the year where SocialLuxe Lounge and Swiffer will be hosting a pampering party to help kick things off.
I’d love to receive the recognition, BUT I need YOU to vote. Here’s how you can help out:
- Go to the SocialLuxe website.
- Go to either the “Most Provocative Blog” or “Blog You’ve Learned The Most From” category and find Market Like A Chick, click on the “Vote” box underneath & enter your info.
- You can vote EVERY DAY between now and July 6th! (Which means you will be seeing lots of reminder Tweets from me until then!).
- Please be sure to visit the other categories and vote for the other great blogs you love…you might just find some new ones like I did!!
I am up against some pretty stiff competition, for sure! These ladies absolutely ROCK and all deserve to be nominated. Please check everyone out in all the different categories and cast your vote. And, if you have benefited from Market Like A Chick or just get a kick out of the off-the-cuff style and blunt honesty, please VOTE FOR ME!
I’ll keep the badge in the top corner for a while, so please feel free to give it a click and cast your vote.
Thank you for all your support, retweets and sharing!!

Why do women segregate themselves and make new categories to make themselves look good. If you are a good blogger then go up against ALL bloggers, don’t discriminate against all men and then compete against whats left.
Its the same with Businesswoman of the year, woman marketer of the year, woman anything of the year. I would not brag about doing well in a competition where I chose to eliminate all women from the running before the competition started.
If women want to be treated equally then stop the discrimination against men.
It’s a good point–men don’t have “Man blog” awards. Or do they? Frankly, I wouldn’t be surprised–not necessarily because every blog written by a man would qualify as a “man blog,” but because such a blog vote would likely be inclusive of blogs targeted at a male audience–and then it becomes more a demographic issue than one of gender equality.
Is it not true that different demographics read different blogs? Besides blogs written for specific professional or fandom niches, a blog that’s by a woman is probably more likely to be read by women–thus, the audience votes on that which fits their readerly niche. So we aren’t talking about ALL blogs written by women, but those that specifically address the needs of a female audience, in whatever form that targeting takes.
I hope we can someday reach a point where “female” is no longer a marketing demographic, but just…a gender.
@David: Here’s the difference…Women DO compete with male bloggers, marketers, etc…and women DO receive recognition there. However, like it or not, the female brain and personality is just wired to do and see things differently than men. I have had several women comment to me that they feel as though when they are reading other marketing blogs written by men that it feels like they are talking AT them, whereas a blog written by a woman can relate to their way of thinking and computing things and it feels like the woman is talking WITH them.
This is not about needing to set a competition to “make ourselves look good”, but it is about women relating to one another and acknowledging the accomplishments we have made. There is no one that can justifiably say that women have NOT had to fight for how far we have come, and I believe we should be able to join together to celebrate those accomplishments.
@Andi: You’re right…a blog written by a woman that is basically directed towards sharing a woman’s views is a demographic. If we did away with all demographics, different shopping patterns, likes & dislikes, ethnic background, household income, etc., we would have a hell of a lot of Marketers out of jobs! If men want to have their own blog awards, go right at it, I say! Healthy competition is good, and it’s fun to have it between your peers.
I agree with David when he says that if women want to be treated equally, they need to stop asking for special treatment.
However,I think this whole ‘equality’ thing is nonsense anyway. Why would a woman want to be an ‘equal’ of man? That’s moving a step backwards, if anything. Go women bloggers!

I was quite surprised by these comments.
I don’t see anything wrong with recognizing the accomplishments of women.
One of the reasons why women in business are recognized with awards such as “Businesswoman of the Year” is because it is tough for many women who balance work/family life to achieve the same kind of success as our male counterparts and it is still important to recognize the success of women in our own way. For example, in Canada every year we have the Profit100 awards which recognize the top 100 Canadian businesses by profit. All of these companies are billion dollar companies and there is only one woman on this list. A few months after publishing the Profit100 they do a W100 which is the top 100 female owned businesses based on profit. The earnings of the W100 are far less than Profit100 because the reality is that many women choose to run smaller businesses. Many of the women on the W100 list also have children. I believe these women, although their earnings aren’t as high as men, deserve this unique recognition.

@Natalie: Thanks for chiming in…I was beginning to think I was the only woman that felt we had every right to acknowledge female leaders! You bring up a very good point about the family/work lifestyle that we all try to balance. Women still take on the majority of responsibility in caring for our children and home…not because we can’t shift it all over the the male counterpart, but because our very nature is to nurture and enjoy our maternal instincts. I think for years those qualities have been looked at as weaknesses in the business world, with the male ego and the “hunter” mentality ridiculing our business viewpoints. Women are showing the world that we can do it all and proving that our caring qualities are strengths not weaknesses. A client that feels they have been well cared for will loyally refer more clients to you year after year. If women had never bonded together to become one powerful voice, but let things “evolve”, I doubt we would even be allowed to vote let alone nominate a woman to office. “Discrimination” is not something women drummed up to be better, but it is something we have learned to use to our advantage after years of letting it hold us down.
@Funkymum: Men don’t want to have “male awards” because then they would have to admit they are not recognizing women. Keep things the way they are and that predominatntly male world continues on as is with few women speaking up about it. And you better duck if you do speak up or you might get hit with that discrimination card they throw out there when we get any attention. Women think like women. Women want someone that can relate to their way of thinking and teach them in a way that they understand. Who better to do that than another woman? For women to give another woman an award for that is just another way of thanking them and clearing the pathway for more to follow. Chicks rule!
I “market like a chick” but have to “think like a man” as I’m competing in a STILL predominantly male world regardless of all the song and dance about equality. And somehow a female blogger understands the core of ME because I’m a woman. Oh by the way I do have a favourite male blogger. Wonder why men haven’t thought about an award yet? Oh well I will keep my vote till the lightbulb goes on.
The light bulb will not be going on for men to have a ‘men only’ award because we are not interested in practicing discrimination.
Women bloggers are great, women in business are great, but if they have to discriminate against men in order to make themselves stand near the top of their ‘filtered’ profession then I think they need to rethink how good they are.
Men have a difficult time with work/family balance because its usually the men who have to miss out on their children growning up as their wife claims all her maternity, then feels hard done to if she has to leave the kids to work. Men on average get to see their kids far less than the kids mums do but we dont cry about it, we just get on with the job.
I get fed up with reading in my local paper about more ‘women only’ events. Its a negative trend that has been creeping on us in recent years as more and more women choose to practice discrimination.
I would be happy if women just got on with the job without the need to reward themselves in a discriminatory way. I love working with women but I do tend to avoid those that want to be sexist, discriminatory and self praising.
Mr Batty (you strike me as someone who may prefer to be addressed as Mr) it’s a tad like watching a programme on television. You don’t like (for whatever reason) what you see you change channels or switch it off. So if you don’t like the favourite female blogger awards (or any other female related recognition) just tune out. Change the channel. Switch off.
Funkymum. Its difficult to ‘tune out’ because I see things like this mentioned on the internet, in my business magazines, in my local paper etc. Always the same, women talking about discriminating against men. I dont like discrimination in any form, I prefer to see people just getting on with their business without prefixing statements with ‘Women…’ instead of simply… ‘Take a look at these marketing tips…’
I can give you a good tip that will improve your business and your marketing power, stop discriminating against men and you will find that marketing to ALL people brings in far more results and will stop you from alienating half the population.
I can’t believe that in this day and age we have women trying to bring back discrimination, undoing all the progress made so far. If it was men doing it against women then I think you would be the first to be complaining about it.

My goodness David where do you hail from? The dark ages? And just look at the MANNER in which you are trying to give me a “tip”. Totally patronising. Newsflash! I do market to ALL people. Get with the programme here please. The point is – I don’t see anything wrong in recognising females. Just as I don’t see anything wrong in recognising males. So for now I’m switching off and tuning out as the plot is getting a tad blurry so I’m losing interest. Remote control hidden. NOT switching it on again.
@Funkymum: We both agree on another point, which is not to engage with ignorance. I appreciate you!!!
