How To Find And Follow Your Target Market Contacts On Twitter
Marketers are always looking for more targeted leads, and today I came across a very cool little tip on how to use Google Alerts in a more specific way to do just that. Adam Green, or “Mr. Google Alerts”, recently posted an article titled “Generating quality marketing leads with Google Alerts and Twitter” in which he takes apart the Google search, breaks it down, and produces ultra-targeted marketing leads from Twitter.
If you’re not familiar with Google Alerts, it is a tool that allows you to create alerts with the latest relevant Google results (web, news, etc.) based on your search query and keywords. By using this tool to search Twitter you can pull targeted marketing contacts to follow. It’s much more useful than the Twitter tools out there because they only search text, with Google Alerts you can narrow it down to search bio’s. That way you are only pulling in contacts using your keyword in their bio’s instead of anyone using the keyword somewhere in a tweet.
For instance, if you were specifically looking for Lawyers on Twitter you would type this text into the search box:
(intext:”bio legal” OR intext:”bio lawyer”) site:twitter.com
Adam goes into much more detail in his post, explaining how to narrow the results down even further. I am not the super savvy technical chick, just the marketing chick…so for more detailed information be sure to check out Adam’s great tips!
This is a great search tool if you are looking for a very targeted niche market…and who isn’t?

@CJ: It’s pretty easy to add to Google Reader, that’s exactly what I did. Then I added the Reader to my iGoogle desktop along with the Twitter app so it’s all in one nice neat little place!
I like this I just need to figure out how to intergrate it into my Google Reader and automated Hootsuite! Thanks ever so much for this awesome tip!
U ROCK!
What a great article, thanks! I had just read about this in comparison w/ http://www.tweetbeep.com , which is the alert in reverse. I don’t buy into coincidences, but this was really helpful
